Tighter budgets will increase the use of e-learning technology in the corporate training market, a survey has found.
The Learning Trends Index, undertaken by training content provider Good Practice and The Learning Sanctuary, found that 76% of learning and development (L&D) managers are predicting wider use of such technologies as resources tighten.
Nearly half (44%) of managers reporting a fall in their resources. And 37% of those surveyed also predicted they would have to reduce their staff in the next six months to cope with the financial pressures.
But a majority (87%) believe they can still meet the training needs of their organization, with some changes to the way they do things.
Besides the increased take-up of e-learning, half are expecting to increase their use of technologies such as social networking, while 64% are expecting to be more reliant on informal learning approaches.
One quarter of those surveyed said that as a result of tightening budgets they would be forced to cut their use of external coaches, and 39% admitted that they would be cutting outsource delivery partners.
Peter Casebow, Good Practice’s chief executive, said the results survey had found a mixed picture: “On one hand, it shows resources and staff provision for L&D departments continuing to tighten, and on the other hand it shows not only growing confidence in terms of the contribution and impact that L&D managers are having, but a belief that L&D managers can meet the learning needs of their organization.
“We would want to examine this growing confidence miss-placed and ask if the respondents were too optimistic.”
Casebow added that the results “reveal the growing role of e-learning and Web 2.0 technologies as an enabler to help managers work more effectively with limited resources.”
The Infographic makes the assertion that, “Online education is quickly becoming a prominent and important piece of the education pie in the United States. The explosive growth of this segment of education, even during a recession, is nothing short of spectacular. It is becoming clear that there is a fundamental shift in how Americans are being educated after high school. The flexibility, lower cost, and variety of choice are just some of the reasons that online education is growing at its current pace. The [following] infographic will give you a better idea of the scope, impact, and future of online education.”
