In Boca Raton, Florida, the South Florida Business Journal and Presenting Sponsor PNC and invite you to join fellow business and community leaders as we hear an update and results since last year’s MedUTech Forum spotlighting new developments on what is happening in the industries of Health Care, Education and Technology. A panel discussion including industry leaders from FAU, Boca Raton Regional Hospital and Palm Beach Medical Education Corporation will be moderated by Pete Martinez.
Following the panel discussion, keynote speaker, Sean Hogan, VP Healthcare & Life Sciences Global, IBM will present Watson and the future of Healthcare: Redefining Value and Success in Healthcare.
On hand will be the latest in medical simulations equipment presented by the Palm Beach Simulation Center at the Palm Beach Medical Education College. The innovative curriculum is based on UC Berkley’s Contextually Integrated Case-Based Curriculum. The core medical curriculum is problem-based, involving students in small-group discussions of clinical cases and integrating clinical simulation. The core medical curriculum fosters an understanding of the biological, social, public health, and ethical contexts of human health and disease.
Most of the learning we do is in a vacuum. We sit back, we read and we study. The future of medical training is not just textbooks and lectures, where the training is passive, but rather a partnership with the new world of interactive simulation, where medical scenarios can be managed to all degrees of complexity. Future physicians learn to work as teams, solving complex issues and allowing them to practice before they ever touch a patient. Safety becomes key. Importantly, our simulation center crosses several disciplines related to improving patient care and safety, allowing future generations of medical providers to carry forward a commitment to excellence to meet patient needs.
Central to PMBC’s corporate strategy and curricular design is the use of clinical simulation. PBMC faculty and trainees will use state-of-the-art simulators to learn the practice of medicine. The Palm Beach CSC is the hub of their distributed learning model. Medical students eschew the medical school classroom and learn as apprentices across a primary care practice network in Palm Beach County. The three-year curriculum is composed of inquiry-driven/problem-based learning, and will be paired with longitudinally integrated clerkships and an additional year of intensive clinical experiences.
