Accelerate experience. Simulate reality.

Leverage our clinical simulation center experience.

We Understand the Business of Clinical Simulation

We created and continue to manage two of the nation’s largest simulation centers. Our Design Services follow guiding principals that frame the application of fixtures and interior design, similar to how theaters use their stages to create their performances environment. These dynamic environments foster multiple types of learning, allow any size space to be maximized, and offer affordances against technology obsolescence.

Training sessions and research activities can be customized as needed. After your simulation center is designed, our Operations Services can provide the management, curriculum and educators to help you quickly realize your return on investment.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The design of clinical simulation center learning environments is a complex assignment. Our guiding principles reflect our approach to understanding the complexity of the human experience: the complexity of what "learning" is about. We connect the four realms of human experience with five design qualities to create simulation centers that optimize learning and physical space.

harmony

REALMS OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE

  1. Spatial. Intimate, Open, Bright, Closed, Active, Quiet, Monumental and Technological.
  2. Psychological. Soothing, Safe, Awe-Inspiring, Stimulating, Creative, Encouraging Reflection, and Creating a Sense of Community.
  3. Physiological. Warm, Cool, Healthy,Textured, and Visually Pleasing.
  4. Behavioral. Independent Study, Collaborative Work,Team Work, Research, Writing, Reading, Computer Work, Performing, Presenting, Large Group Work, Designing, Building,Teaching, Relaxing, and Reflecting..

DESIGN QUALITIES

  1. Parts of the Whole. The functional areas of a clinical simulation center are treated as components that fit together to create a learning experience which balances usability, logistics, and aesthetics.
  2. Spatial Quality. Each space has qualities that cut across functional areas.Transparency, equity, scalability, and flexibility, for example, are spatial qualities.
  3. Brain-Based. Some particular aspect of design is based on brain-based research. Our design of spaces stimulate the brain in ways that are beneficial to learning and overall human development.
  1. High Performance. High Performance is a quality that applies to the efficient operation of the simulation center, as well as the way in which it is designed to get the best "performance" from its occupants by providing a healthy, safe and enjoyable environment. These are qualities that highlight a simulation center’s sustainable qualities, serving today's and tomorrow’s healthcare professionals.
  2. Systems Approach. We define a Systems Approach as one which encompasses other qualities within it. This is a quality that shows how an entire simulation center might be arranged by combining functional areas such as the learning lounge, debriefing rooms, training bays, etc.

A Holistic Approach to Clinical Simulation Curriculum

Our systems approach to simulation improves patient safety and increases quality of care. Using simulation-based curricula, we work to minimize and eliminate medical errors at every opportunity.

Well-designed simulation courses strengthen confidence and promotes competence by providing a safe and supportive environment for mastering skills, practicing protocols, learning evidence-based practices, applying clinical decision making, and developing communication and interpersonal skills.

We understand how to develop and integrate simulation-based teaching practices into your hospital’s learning enterprise. Understanding how to create your simulation training program requires an intimate understanding of how simulation and education coalesce into learning experiences. During each engagement. our educational objectives are to help you (1) improve team training by providing a safe environment for critical events team training; (2) use deliberately practice to help clinicians logically approach problems and deal with diagnostic and therapeutic uncertainty; (3) apply virtual reality technologies to help clinicians improve cognitive and psychomotor skills; and (4) with the use of concrete mechanisms for framing conversations, foster improved communications between healthcare team members about a patient's condition.
